The macro is one of the levels of the problem’s approach. Corresponds to one of the main problems presented by the researcher at the time of completing his Degree Thesis. Because in it, will explain in detail the problem that generated the investigation. Being the basis of the project to be developed. A very important aspect that must be elaborated in Chapter I. It is structured in three levels, Macro, Meso and Micro.
In this way, if the same is poorly prepared, either by writing or approach, you can eliminate the possibility of doing this research. For which I have decided to develop a series of articles on the subject.
The approach to the problem that must be developed in Chapter I of the thesis. It is who gives shape to the research work. If there is no problem or it can not be solved, there is simply no degree thesis.
Identify the approach to the problem. What is macro, meso and micro in a thesis?
Identify the approach of the problem, is the first step for the development of the investigation. From there it is determined what is the title of the work and the formulation of the problem. Not the other way around, as many students think. First, determine what the problem is and then state what the title of the thesis is. Since there is a direct relationship between the two.
After you have the title and the problem, the way of how you will develop it comes. The approach must be developed in three stages:
- The Macro of the problem.
- After the Meso of the problem.
- Finally the Micro of the problem.
It is important that for each level (macro and meso) you cite an author that defines what you are pointing out. Supporting you in a bibliography and in the micro you describe the area where you will develop the investigation.
Remember you must always work in the third person, using connectors between the paragraphs, a formal language and technical words.
Since the research work is written by a specialist in the area. In that case the author and will be evaluated by other specialists as is the jury.
Presentation style according to the internal rules of the University
Some universities require a long–term approach, others short. On other occasions, it is the teachers who demand the approach in a certain way.
It should be noted that I have observed universities that require a total of pages for the entire chapter I. For example, in the Universities, such as the National Open University, the thesis requires approximately 150 pages. So the chapter should have about 20 pages, without the covers.
The University requires 25 pages, including covers and bibliographic references for the entire draft, (3 chapters).
In the same order is the University of Carabobo, and in other institutions are the teachers are those who demand the number of pages.
For this reason, the first thing is to inform you of the regulations of your university, after that is what the teacher wants and from there you will be able to develop an approach according to the requirements of both parties.
Now, when we develop the approach of the problem, it is necessary to keep an order so that it has coherence what we want to write, without it, we will not be able to explain it clearly. Let’s start with the Macro of the problem.
What is the Macro of the problem, in the methodological research?
Macro according to the dictionary means large, also indicates:
In this way, the Macro of the problem must be developed at the beginning of the approach, starting from the most general to the most specific, the Macro is the most general we have in the approach.
Thus, many authors begin by indicating what happens on a global or international level, capturing the attention of whoever is reading the document.
How to pose a problem at the macro level?
It is advisable to identify which is the problem that will be studied, what is going to be done, and if possible, identify the title of the research before developing the problem statement.
It is at this moment that the delimitation of the subject becomes important, since one should avoid being too general and broad in the topic to choose since it propitiation that the idea is lost and the investigator begins to digress in his work of degree.
In the article How to choose the title of the thesis of degree, explain that the title of the thesis or thesis is composed of a:
Purpose + general variable + particular variable.
In the macro you can start developing your general variable, then I will develop some examples that can be used to start your macro of the problem statement
Final Recommendations
When you start the Macro of the problem, try to develop the importance of the topic. In a general way and that way you explain to the reader, why your thesis is important and why you chose the topic. With that you are awakening the interest of the jury.
Likewise, the amount of content will depend on the requirements of the university or professor. Personally, I prefer something short and concrete.
This is because with a collapsed jury of theses to be reviewed and corrected, they do not have time to read several pages of an approach that ends up being boring and meaningless.
